Novel Antiviral Drug Target Discovered

Massachusetts General Hospital (MGH) researchers have discovered a novel antiviral drug target. This drug target could be used to prevent the spread of epidemics. This new discovery could help us fight coronavirus-like outbreaks. According to MGH scientists, the protein AGO4 offers protection to cells against viral infections. Mammalian immune cells deficient in AGO4, seem to be vulnerable to viral infections. Boosting AGO4 levels may help us fight multiple viral infections. Future studies include finding out the broad spectrum efficacy of AGO4. Published as a research report in Cell Reports (h-index: 108).
