BPA Toxicity & Pregnant Women

Bisphenol A, also known as BPA, is a deadly (but common) plastic additive that can trigger a variety of serious ailments in both infants and adults. According to Spanish researchers, pregnant women exposed to higher levels of BPA are more likely to give birth to children who suffer from wheezing and poorer lung function [1]. BPA is a known hormonal disruptor, as evident from a large number of published studies highlighting this fact. Hormonal (or endocrine) disruptors alter important biological systems such as the immune and respiratory systems. As part of this study, female volunteers were asked to provide urine samples. These were then tested for the presence of BPA. Researchers at the Barcelona Institute of Global Health were shocked to discover detectable levels of BPA in most (79%) of the collected urine samples. Most shockingly, a two-fold increase in the BPA levels was associated with a 5 mL decrease in the lung capacity of the offspring. Scientists across the globe agree that there should be tighter regulation on and stricter legislation against known (and suspected) biological agents. According to the Mayo Clinic [2], BPA is commonly found in polycarbonate plastics and epoxy resins, both of which are used in the industrial manufacturing of bottles, food cans, etc.  BPA can seriously damage vital organs such as the brain or the prostate gland.
