Regular soda consumption can cause type-2 diabetes/heart disease/other serious ailments. The city of Berkeley had therefore levied a “soda tax” in 2015. Three years later, the city witnessed a 52% decrease in soda consumption. Water consumption also increased by 29% between 2015 and 2018. This research study clearly proves the effectiveness of “soda taxes.” Unfortunately, the soda lobby has stopped states likes California from imposing soda taxes in the future. Lifestyle-related diseases cost the U.S. billions of dollars every year. A similar decrease in soda consumption was also seen in Mexico earlier.
